Leominster Planning Board recommends allowing self-storage in mixed-use zones

Planning Board · Meeting of January 5, 2026

Leominster Planning Board recommends self-storage in mixed-use zones. The board unanimously approved a recommendation to allow self-storage uses in MU1 areas with Planning Board Special Permit and Site Plan approval, marking the first expansion of the use beyond Industrial zones. Vice Chairperson Carol Vittorioso emphasized the amendment would not extend to residential areas.

The proposal targets the commercial site at 21 Jungle Road, under contract with Horizon Storage Group, LLC for development. The board also scheduled a Special Permit hearing for a spray-booth expansion at 127 Mechanic Street on February 2, 2026, and tabled Chair and Vice Chair appointments to that date.
